Welcome our new drummer, Matt!!!

Posted under News by admin on Friday 27 August 2010 at 12:15 am

Welcome Matt, our new drummer! After several auditions, questions & answers, humor exchanges during studio time, & numerous sticks broken(indication of hard work, *wink*), Matt was the finale! Matt has been involved in music for over 12 years, both in classical and rock music and performed in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games at the infamous Sydney Opera House.  He currently resides in San Diego with his loving wife, Jess.

Commuting all the way from San Diego to LA County can be a bit daunting, however, Matt’s love for music keeps him going and playing with his band mates in the county. Being classically trained and having a wall full of cracked cymbals to prove it, Matt is a well experienced percussionist and drummer.  And we are really happy to have him:).

Meet Matt at our upcoming FREE SHOW at The Slidebar in Fullerton, CA. on September 26th Sunday. We will be performing new material that night so come on out to hear the new sound! Details below…..

Where: The Slidebar
Address: 122 East Commonwealth Avenue Fullerton, CA 92832

Farewell to Josh and Gary.

Posted under News by admin on Thursday 5 August 2010 at 12:19 am

We would like to announce that Josh Barbosa and Gary Cheung will no longer be with us.

Josh has been with Evertheory since the band’s inception in Dec. 2007.  His creative contribution as well as his unique and excellent loosely jazz-like drumming skills have been an excellent asset to Evertheory’s sound.  Josh is a multi-instrumentalist and overall has a great feel for music!  He’s able to grasp any type of music and can quickly come up with awesome unique beats.  Josh will now focus on playing guitar with his band, Loose Ties. Check them out!

Gary has been a great asset as well with his ability to captivate the audience by accentuating the melodic orchestration of Evertheory’s music with his synth skills.  Holding a BA in music theory, Gary is able to create beautiful compositions and has abundant music business knowledge and ideas. Gary will continue with his music endeavors being involved with other projects. Check out his music at: http://www.youtube.com/templecitizen

Thank you and good luck to you both!

Sharon On Becoming Musical

Posted under News by admin on Wednesday 4 August 2010 at 4:24 pm

To tell you the truth I have never expected or thought to be in a band. I was so isolated(and utterly) as a child. I have always been a shy and quiet type who was almost afraid to get out and avoid any type of social situation. So I spent most of my time playing a small keyboard playing nursery songs. My dad would also play his acoustic guitar from time to time and I would observe him playing —- looking and listening very attentively. My dad would also pop in some Beatles, Bee Gees, and some country music vinyl records in his stereo and I would sing along with the tunes.

I think every kid grows up with some kind of music influence, whether it be influence from family members or just plain listening to music as they grow up. I just didn’t think it would grow deeply within me and actively take part.

Fast forward into the future. As a pre-teen, I took piano lessons. My parents thought it was a great idea to have me take private lessons from a family friend. After a couple of months, however, I quit the lessons because I wasn’t satisfied with my improvement and became bored. I picked up the acoustic guitar quickly after(and learned only the C chord from my dad) and played along songs I listened to on the radio. I felt like I owned that acoustic guitar ;) becoming even more skilled in rhythm and chord formation.

During my teens, I still continued on playing the guitar and playing along my favorite songs from the radio. It was not until during my junior year in high school that I created my first full original song, ‘Substance In My Hand’ which I used to enter a contest at school about drug abuse. No, it was not because I was a drug addict(I’m clean thanks). The school had a substance abuse program which put together such a contest with a cause and my English teacher, Mrs. Kelly, mentioned it to her class. So everyone in that class participated in hopes to help other teens with substance abuse. Unfortunately, I did not win. Although, my sole purpose was to help out in this great cause and knowing that my song will help out in tribute, it was just a great feeling alone to just finally be able to make my own song and actually sharing it to everyone. Hearing it played on the school quad stereo was total icing on the cake. It felt awesome :) .

In my senior year, I got my first ever electric guitar. It was a Harmony(kid version) from Tim(now my current boyfriend and current band member). Tim who’s had a big crush on me in high school was such a sweetheart:). He’s known me for such a great acoustic guitarist in high school that he wanted to surprise me with something more of an upgrade:). So I moved on to electric playing mostly rhythm.

As I hit college, I stopped playing the guitar for a couple of years since I’ve become really busy and of course there were many distractions which kept me away from music.

It was not until 2006 that I’ve gotten back to playing guitar. This time with full on electric. After listening to various types of music and listening very attentively to compositions during past years, I’ve learned structural composition while having learned more techniques on electric. Tim and I began playing jam sessions together thereafter and played the songs I’ve made, most of which are part of the first Evertheory album, The Dream Current. Tim and I eventually formed Evertheory and convinced my sister, Jae. to be the lead singer. Josh joined as a result from Tim attending a party some time in December of 2007.

Evertheory Milestones

Posted under News by TimP on Saturday 19 June 2010 at 8:57 am

First of all I would like to thank everyone in promotions, the bands, the fans and the staff for the House of Blues show on June 17. The show was very fun, and we learned a lot. We are thankful and very proud that we were able to set foot on such a venerable Los Angeles stage, and play our music.

It goes without saying that many independent Los Angeles area bands dream of playing at a venue like The House of Blues. For Evertheory, it was almost an abstract concept that was out of reach and unattainable to play one of the premier LA music venues on the Sunset Strip.

Oedipus invited us to play as the opener to the show a couple of weeks back, and that was how it came to be. Jeremy Haffner, the bassist and singer of Oedipus personally extended the invitation to us since Tim was working on some art for their band. Needless to say, we were shocked and ecstatic when we got the news!

The House of Blues is a true world class venue with a world class sound system. The main reason why that is so important is because the bands don’t have to fuss over their sound or volume levels. The sound engineering staff at the venue are some of the most capable and professional staff we have ever met. In the particular case of our band, they were patient, and courteous, and they made sure that they took all of the necessary steps to help us put on the best show we could with no hassle.

The atmosphere of the House of Blues added to the ambiance of the show. Set deep within a southern-themed tin-roof shack style building and decorated from floor to ceiling with hand made art, the House of Blues leaves a lasting impression on any visitor. The food and drinks are awesome, and every time you see the main stage, it really feels like you are watching a high-end music special on television. The lighting and decor really does take you to a different place.

Musically, we had an absolute blast; the sheer size of the stage allowed us to move around more freely and be more expressive that in any venue we have played so far. In smaller venues the movement restriction forces bands to re-think how they are supposed to move and react while playing. At the House of Blues, each member had almost an entire small venue stage space to his or her self.  So that was fun.

Many of our strongest supporters made their way through Los Angeles traffic into the Sunset Strip on the same day of the Lakers game #7 with the Celtics. For this we thank you each and every one. You know who you are! What this means is that many had to wait through the freeway parking lots and street re-directs to get out to see Evertheory open a show. Luckily there were many television sets throughout the bar for our Laker fan friends to watch the game as we played! The House of Blues is a music venue, but it is also a series of bars, so sports are taken care of too! haha!

We were very glad to be given a chance to perform at such a high-end venue. We will never forget the experience, and hope to play there again one day. Thanks

San Gabriel Valley Tribune article about Evertheory!

Posted under News by admin on Wednesday 16 June 2010 at 7:53 pm

I guess doing spontaneous things to get your music out there can work. Tim and I were driving one day aimlessly in his Land Cruiser after eating delicious vegetarian cuisine and talked about other productive ways on promoting. As we were blabbing away inside the cruiser, we turned our heads quickly towards the SGV Tribune office as we passed by. Then looked at each other and thought, ‘hmm’. Another bright idea came to us suddenly. Why not? Dropping by the office might prove useful. The spontaneous drop-by turned out to be a great experience! One of their writers, Michelle Mills, was very cool. She made arrangements for an interview with us soon after.

The interview took place at a sushi restaurant. Read the article below resulting from the interview:

‘Rain’ Video!

Posted under Audio & Video, News by admin on Wednesday 16 June 2010 at 6:44 pm

Finally! We have our first official video on our song, ‘Rain’. This video is directed and put together by Jorge Bicer of OC Films. We were very happy about the work he has done and he just made the experience very easy for us from concept to finish! Thank you Mr. Bicer! The production quality is just amazing! We would also like to thank our friends, the Santiagos, for letting us have their home as one of the video locations! Thanks guys!

If you saw or still seeing this video, you might remember many of the locations if you live anywhere in Los Angeles(i.e. the subway Redline and Farmer’s Market). The location where we played is called Hothouse Studios in Whittier, where we rehearse weekly. Thanks to Richard Morales for letting us use his studio!

We really had a lot of fun especially working with an easygoing and cool director like Jorge. If you ever need video production, he’s the guy you need.

It was such a great experience performing at the Silverlake Lounge as Evertheory, The Appletons, The Humming Stuff, and Sharon Temple put on such a great show! Also, we’ve made a little video footage experiment from Silverlake Lounge(below). Video footage shot by Greg Magnuson from the band, Magnuson. Thanks Greg!
